As part of your sport you should be working hard on the pitch. However you should also be working hard in the gym. Strength training has many benefits. Such as; reduces risk of injury, improves your work capacity, speed, endurance, power, strength, flexibility, balance and mobility. It improves your overall performance!
There are many exercises which I believe will benefit you in your sport. But i'm only going to talk about two.
1. Sumo deadlifts. This is a variation of a normal deadlift. This exercise will strengthen the glutes, hamstrings, core and upper back as well as developing hip mobility. Overall the exercise works strength and power. Due to a wider foot stance, it is known to be able to lift more weight through this technique. I would recommend doing high weight, low reps (1-6) and high rest (3-5 minutes) with the exercise.
2. Glute ham raise (GHR). This exercise mainly focuses on the lower posterior chain, hamstrings, glutes and lower back. This exercises helps increase strength in these regions. It also plays a role in injury prevention by improving greater strength balance between the quads and hamstring. It is beneficial for increasing jumping and sprinting power.
